SHIBARI STUDIO BERLIN
A dedicated space for private tuitions, sessions, workshops and artistic projects, led by Dan Carabas.
New to Shibari? Start with our Berlin guide:
A creative and intimate space in Berlin-Mitte, founded in early 2024 by multidisciplinary artist Dan Carabas.
His work is rooted in Aibunawa (愛撫縄), a traditional Shibari technique — the tender, caressing rope. Here, feeling comes before form, and rope becomes a practice of presence, trust, and connection.
At the heart of the studio are our Private Tuition & Sessions: a one-to-one experience by appointment for individuals and couples. We also offer Tantric Shibari Workshops, a grounded blend of Shibari and Tantra to deepen presence, polarity, and intimacy — plus artistic photo and film productions, creating sculptural, high-end imagery.
Explore our Shibari Journal, Tension & Trust, for reflections, behind-the-scenes insights, and practical guidance from the studio.
Shibari is not a technique. It is a language — one that speaks through tension, touch, and presence.
We explore desire, control, surrender, and connection through rope, playing with a strong sense of polarity and intimacy — whether you're a couple seeking deeper connection, an artist craving inspiration, or a rope enthusiast ready to sharpen your skills.
Rooted in Aibunawa (愛撫縄), this is what Dan Carabas named "the art of Shibari with intention": tying your partner with tenderness and presence, building deep connection and honest communication through the rope.

– A Shibari Journal –
Interviews, Art, Practice, and Essays from the Shibari Studio Berlin
From the studio floor in Berlin-Mitte, Tension & Trust explores Shibari as a contemporary art form and embodied practice. The journal brings together personal reflections, behind-the-scenes insights from photo shoots and workshops, and visual narratives rooted in fine art photography and film. It functions as a living archive of experiences, aesthetics, and ideas emerging from the Shibari Studio Berlin.
Alongside the work of artist and founder Dan Carabas, the journal features interviews and portraits of riggers, models, educators, and artists who shape today’s international Shibari and Kinbaku scene — from Berlin and across the global rope community.
Tension & Trust is written for those drawn to rope in all its forms: from quietly curious beginners to experienced practitioners and professionals. The journal approaches Shibari as art, as a language of touch, and as a relational practice, inviting readers to explore presence, intimacy, and connection through rope.
